""I'm...A Bounty Hunter.""
— Captain Falcon introducing himself in F-Zero GP Legend.

Captain Falcon is a prominent character within the F-Zero GP Legend series. Like his mainline counterpart, he is one of the most important characters throughout the entire series, alongside Rick Wheeler.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Overview[]

Taking place within the 23rd century (within both the anime and its related media), Captain Falcon is one of several secret aliases of a man named Andy Summer. He shares the spotlight with Ryu Suzaku (Rick Wheeler in the English dub of the anime and localization of the F-Zero GP Legend GBA game) in F-Zero GP Legend and F-Zero Climax. Andy is the older brother of the anime's incarnation of Jody Summer, thought to be dead after an incident with the anime's incarnation of Zoda. In truth, he runs a Mute City based café called the Falcon House, under the alias of "Bart Lemming," and plays the role of a mentor to some of the pilots, notably Ryu.

Andy Summer, Jody Summer's older brother, was a Galaxy Police officer who seemingly lost his life defending his sister from Zoda during a standoff with Dark Million. In truth, Andy survived the incident, and would continue his battle against Dark Million alone under the name Captain Falcon, while acting as both an F-Zero racer and a Bounty Hunter to fund his efforts. His public alias, the friendly and whimsical 'Bart Lemming,' posed as a barista at the Falcon House, a popular cafe in Mute City that also serves as a pilot hangout spot. Here, he would play the role of somewhat of a mentor to Rick and provide advice to others, all while racing as Captain Falcon in the Grand Prix. The truth would be revealed eventually, once his sister, Jody Summer, along with his apprentice and successor, Clank Hughes and Rick respectively, connected the dots. After disappearing, he briefly assumes another disguise "Berserker", the pilot of Dark Million's Red Bull, until he reveals himself alive and well and resumes his role as Captain Falcon. He would end up passing the Blue Falcon and the title of Captain Falcon to Rick, before delivering a fatal Falcon Punch to Black Shadow at the end of the series and resulting in both their deaths.

Unlike in the mainline continuity, "Captain Falcon" is a title given to a person. Throughout most of the anime, Andy Summer held this title, until it was passed onto Ryu Suzaku (Rick Wheeler). The character of Captain Falcon is generally seen as the stoic and mysterious hero. Regardless of whether he is still an active bounty hunter, he is still feared by many criminals. Although he does not appear in every episode, he plays a significant role in the series: his main goal is to stop the efforts of Dark Million, Black Shadow's organization.[1]

F-Zero GP Legend (GBA)[]

In the anime-inspired games F-Zero: GP Legend and Climax, little is known about this incarnation of Captain Falcon to the public, beyond his popularity in the Grand Prix. His machine is so popular that it is virtually the symbol of the F-Zero races.

Falcon has his own story path in the GP Legend game, though the game itself is very loosely based on the anime. He was originally hired by an old friend to escort Dr. Clash in Mute City. However, he then encountered Zoda, who captured Dr. Clash and began to pursue him with the help of Rick Wheeler, whom he met for the first time and was confused by his claims of having known Zoda for centuries, but they wound up accidentally capturing a decoy instead. He then encountered Samurai Goroh in Red Canyon while attempting to continue his pursuit, but Goroh accused Falcon of poisoning him and raced him. Goroh ran off afterwards.

Captain Falcon returned to Port Town empty-handed, only to be confronted by Blood Falcon. He beat Blood Falcon in a race, but his machine broke down afterward. Lisa Brilliant then offered her help to him, and whether or not Blood Falcon was beaten on the first try, he either accepted her help and then defeated Blood Falcon in a race with Jody Summer's help in the Sand Ocean, or he refused her help and decided to fix his machine with a boost blast, realizing that he had only one lead left. Afterwards, Captain Falcon made his way to Lightning and raced Black Shadow, whom Falcon knew had captured Clash due to his being Blood Falcon's master. After defeating Black Shadow, Jody was able to save Dr. Clash and thanked Captain Falcon for the evil he prevented Black Shadow from unleashing. But Captain Falcon insisted he was only doing the job he was hired for and resumed his anonymous career as a bounty hunter. He then participates in the Grand Prix, and depending on what character was chosen for the story mode, he will either win or lose.

F-Zero Climax[]

In F-Zero Climax, his other alias, Berserker, is unlockable. In the anime, Berserker was his disguise in order to infiltrate Dark Million, utilized after another thought-to-be-dead scenario. He eventually removed his disguise and carried on as Captain Falcon until the final episode, in which he would pass the role onto his successor and defeat Black Shadow.

Within the game of the same name, Captain Falcon reprises his role as a playable F-Zero pilot, being nearly identical to his previous Game Boy Advance appearance. Himself as Berserker is also playable alongside his machine the Red Bull, as well as Ryu Suzaku in Captain Falcon's attire piloting the Blue Falcon GT.
